Probiotics

Probiotics are living microorganisms that survive the gastrointestinal passage and colonize the human intestine. They are cultures of lactic acid (such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli), which are partially present in breast milk and therefore count as some of the natural colonizers of the human intestine. Probiotics help the digestive system in the absorption of nutrients. Some even produce vital vitamins. They also help maintain an intact immune system and therefore protect the body against pathogens. Probiotic lactic acid cultures feed on prebiotic dietary fibres such as GOS.
