HMO (human milk oligosaccharides)

The initials HMO stand for human milk oligosaccharides. The composition of human milk oligosaccharides in breast milk differs from mother to mother and varies during the breastfeeding period. As with GOS and FOS, HMO are indigestible dietary fibers for the newborn, and serve as food for intestinal bacteria, thereby ensuring healthy gut flora. Artificial HMO have only been available for a short time and can only be produced with the help of genetically modified organisms. This is why the addition of HMO to organic infant formula is not allowed.
